A 2-Dooz Labs Featured Project
A brief history
The Indispensable Guide to Amino Acids site is a 2-Dooz Research Laboratories' publication. The catalyst for this project was a decision by a family member to become a vegan. Her decision sparked a rich conversation and exploration of the health benefits and challenges of Veganism.
Because vegans abstain from animal products, which are great sources for dietary protein, our curious researcher began his inquiry by digging into the quality and completeness of the protein supplied by fruits, vegetables, beans, legumes and other non-animal foods. The preliminary research provided a foundation for understanding that all protein isn't the same. The difference is a consequence of the varying ratios of indispensable amino acids (IAAs) which make up the proteins in the foods that we eat. IAAs are generally obtained through the food that we eat and are essential for good health.
The project formally began in 2019 and since that time has fostered an ongoing inquiry and collaboration by and between lead researchers Tony Clark, CSO, and Steve Fratini, PhD, regarding IAAs, protein quality, protein malnutrition and the contribution of protein deficiency to diminished health and wellbeing. Melanie Thomas, RN, BSN, joined the research team in 2024.
Where we are today
Since the project's inception, we have had many discussions with friends and family members regarding the importance of consuming adequate amounts of IAAs on a daily basis. The Indispensable Guide to Amino Acids is our attempt to present our findings to a broader audience. Our hope is that the provided information will motivate readers to assess their own individual IAA needs for optimal health and wellbeing.
The blog is consistent with 2-Dooz's mission to create socially conscious tech that aids in the discovery of purpose.
Hey there!
Thanks for checking out the Indispensable Guide to Amino Acids. We’re on a mission to make the science of indispensable amino acids (IAAs) as well-known as your morning cup of coffee. Why? Because these little molecules are the unsung heroes of your health. They are essential biological building blocks, which help to power everything from immune system functioning to mood regulation.
Our original research has already led to the recommendation for higher daily intakes of IAAs to help prevent chronic diseases and disease mechanisms, such as systemic inflammation, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), digestive diseases, Alzheimer’s, kidney disease and depression. We aim to inform our readers about the latest science linking the consumption of IAAs to healthier lifestyles and wellbeing.
But there’s a catch: researching and spreading this crucial information isn’t easy, especially since we’re a small, independent lab with a message of nutrition and prevention that is counter to the medical establishment’s emphasis on treating illness. Still, we have big dreams—dreams of a world where everyone knows what’s on their plate and how it affects their body. Whether it’s breaking down the myths about meat substitutes, diving into the science of protein quality, or exploring why lysine is your new best friend, we’re here to bring you science-backed facts in a way that’s easy to digest and understand.
Though we are passionate about this work, we are not backed by billionaires, and we don’t have any corporate overlords. What we do have is you. If you’ve found our work helpful, or even just a little interesting, we’d love your support to keep this project rolling. Every dollar helps us create more content, conduct more research, and keep this knowledge free and accessible for everyone.
So, if you’re up for it, consider tossing a few bucks our way. Or, if you’re feeling extra generous, maybe even become a regular supporter. We promise to keep bringing you the best, most up-to-date info on indispensable amino acids, protein, and how it all ties into your health.
Thanks for being part of this journey with us. Together, we can make sure that the science-backed nutrition is something everyone can chew on.
